In Cyprus you register as a resident at the Migration Department within four months of arriving, for a fee of €20. Your tax number is not issued automatically: you ask for it yourself, online, on the Tax For All portal.

Step 1
Register your residence
Within four months of arriving, file the MEU1 form with your documents at the Migration Department, or at your district's immigration unit. It costs €20, a complete file is decided within a month, and the certificate comes by post.

Ask for your tax number
The TIC is not attributed automatically. Create an account on Tax For All and register as a new taxpayer, attaching your MEU1: since 2026, a resident must register with taxable income, or from the age of 25 even without any.

Step 3
Join the public health system
Registering your residence is a condition for joining GeSY, if you work or hold an S1. You then choose a personal doctor: they are your way in to specialists, who cost €6 on referral and €25 without.

No, a tax number isn't issued automatically in Cyprus. You ask for it yourself, online, through the Tax For All portal, and since the 2026 reform you must register if you have taxable income, or if you are 25 or over, even with no income. First, register your residence with the Migration Department within four months of arriving: the certificate is called MEU1 and costs €20. You will need it for the tax portal too.
