As an EU citizen you do not need a residence permit, but nearly everything else asks for a proof of address. Your tax number arrives only with your first tax return, in the spring after you arrive.

Step 1
Sign your lease and keep your proof of address
An unfurnished flat comes with a lease of at least three years, a furnished one usually one year. The deposit is capped at one month's rent, or two for a furnished flat. Your proof of address then opens the door to a bank account.

Step 2
Open your health cover
If you work, your employer opens your rights with the Assurance Maladie. Without a job, you can join after more than three months of stable residence, if you have enough resources. Then you create your ameli account, order your carte Vitale and name a médecin traitant.

Step 3
File your first tax return
There is nothing to apply for in the year you arrive. The following spring, you declare the income you received since you arrived, and your numéro fiscal is issued with that first return.

No. As an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen, you can settle in France without a residence permit. A residence card exists, but it is optional, and free if you work. After three months, your right to stay still depends on your situation: you work, you study, or you have health insurance and enough money to live on. If you are British and arrived since 2021, it is different: you need a long-stay visa before you leave.

A vault for your papers
Your documents are encrypted before they are stored, with a different key for each document, kept apart from our servers. Nobody on the team has a tool to open them. Moovy reads each document you add to file it, and every reading appears in your log. You can delete everything whenever you like.
