03The paperwork
Your PPS number asks for an address. Your address asks for a lease.
You can only ask for a PPS number once you are in Ireland, and it needs proof of your address from the last three months. Meanwhile your landlord has to register the tenancy, and the HSE may ask you to prove that you really live there.

Step 1
Rent a home that gives you proof of address
Your landlord can ask for at most one month's deposit and one month's rent up front, and must register the tenancy with the Residential Tenancies Board within a month of the start.

Apply for your PPS number
You can only apply once you are in Ireland: create a MyGovID, apply on MyWelfare.ie, then attend an appointment in person with your ID and proof of address from the last three months. The number arrives by post.

Join the public health service
If you live in Ireland, or plan to for at least a year, you are entitled to public health services. A GP visit is paid unless you hold a medical card or GP visit card; a Drugs Payment Scheme card caps your medicines at €80 a month.
