The papers waiting for you in Poland
Poland asks for two separate registrations: your address at the town hall within 30 days, and your stay at the wojewoda's office, the regional governor's, within three months. They are two offices, and one does not replace the other.

Declare your address

Register your stay
As an EU citizen, you go in person to the wojewoda's office by the day after your third month in Poland. It is free, and the certificate is valid for 10 years.

Create your profil zaufany
This free digital identity opens gov.pl, the tax office, ZUS and your patient account. You need a PESEL first, and it stays valid for 3 years.

I signed a job contract in Warsaw. Do I need to apply for a NIP before my first payslip?
Probably not. For an employee, the tax number is your PESEL. You get it free and automatically when you declare your address at the town hall, if you stay more than 30 days. Give it to your employer for your tax return. A NIP is meant for businesses and VAT, and you get one when you register a sole proprietorship. If the town hall refuses your PESEL, ask the tax office about form NIP-7.
