In Romania, EU citizens register at the IGI, the immigration office, not at the town hall, within three months of arriving. The certificate you leave with carries your CNP, the number you need for tax and health.

Register at the IGI
Do it within three months of entering Romania, at the IGI office of your county. The certificate is issued the same day and is valid for up to 5 years.

Use your CNP as your tax number
The CNP is printed on your certificate and serves as your tax number. Need a number earlier? Your employer, bank or notary can ask the ANAF for a temporary NIF.

Sort out your health cover
Employed? The 10% CASS is withheld from your gross salary. Retired, with an S1? Register it with your county health fund. Then choose a family doctor.

You register at the IGI, the immigration office of your county, not at the town hall. Do it within three months of entering Romania.
